Iran marks anniversary of U.S. embassy seizure, remains defiant to U.S. pressures
TEHRAN, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Iranians held demonstrations nationwide on Monday to mark the 40th anniversary of the seizure of the former U.S. embassy in Tehran, while the Iranian officials remained defiant to the escalating U.S. pressures. In the capital Tehran, demonstrators gathered outside the former U.S. embassy, now called "den of espionage," carrying placards for the condemnation of U.S. policies against Iran. They also chanted slogans against the United States and Israel and set their flags on fire.
The anniversary of the takeover of U.S. embassy in 1979 "has been designated as the national day of fight against the global arrogance in order to enlighten Iranian generations on the long history of resistance and popular struggle against foreign plots," Rouhani was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency. Besides, Yahya Rahim Safavi, top military aide to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Monday that Washington's anti-Iran policies have failed and the "U.S. hegemony is collapsing" in the region, according to Tasnim.

Iran's Rouhani announces another step away from 2015 nuclear deal
Resumption of uranium enrichment at the Fordow plant is Tehran's latest step back from the crumbling nuclear deal.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said Tehran will start injecting uranium gas into centrifuges at its Fordow facility, the latest step away from its crumbling nuclear deal with world powers since the United States withdrew from the landmark accord last year.
Iran has two vast enrichment sites, at Natanz and Fordow. Much of Natanz is deep underground and Fordow is buried inside a mountain, which is widely believed to protect them from aerial bombardment. Before the deal, Iran used Fordow to enrich uranium to 20 percent fissile purity.
On Monday, a spokesman for Iran's atomic agency announced it had doubled the number of advanced IR-6 centrifuges now in operation. Such centrifuges can produce enriched uranium 10 times faster than the first generation IR-1s allowed under the accord.
Emir says Qatar has overcome obstacles of Gulf blockade
Sheikh Tamim lays out economic achievements, says Doha ready to resolve disputes based on principle of mutual respect.
Addressing Qatar's Shura Council on Tuesday, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani outlined the country's economic achievements and said the Gulf state will keep developing its food security and renewable energy sectors while working to further diversify its economy.
On June 5, 2017, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic and trade relations with Qatar, closing land, air and sea links, as they accused Doha of supporting "terrorism" and their regional rival, Iran. Doha vehemently denies the charges and says the boycott aims to impinge on its sovereignty.
The growth witnessed by Qatar's economy at various sectors, including education, health, food and agriculture, following the blockade are part of programmes adopted by the state to diversify its economy.
Trump calls Egypt's Sisi, backs talks on disputed dam on Nile
The US leader supports Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan's ongoing talks to resolve the dispute over the Renaissance Dam.
President Donald Trump backs talks between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan to resolve the ongoing dam dispute between the three African countries, the White House said.
Cairo fears the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) could restrict already scarce supplies of water from the Nile, on which it is almost entirely dependent. Ethiopia says the dam is crucial to its economic development.
Ethiopia and Sudan have confirmed their attendance at the summit after Egypt quickly accepted the US offer to mediate.
The Nile is a lifeline supplying both water and electricity to the 10 countries it traverses.
US tells UN it is pulling out of Paris climate deal
The Trump administration's move marks the first formal step in the year-long process to exit the global pact.
The US, one of the world's biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions, would become the only country to leave the pact, a decision Trump promised to boost US oil, gas and coal industries.
While the move was expected, "we regret this and it makes the Franco-Chinese partnership on climate and biodiversity even more necessary", President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement as he begins his visit to China.
Macron and President Xi Jinping will sign a joint document on climate during talks in Beijing on Wednesday that will declare the "irreversibility of the Paris accord", the French presidency said.
Trump has been slammed at home and abroad for his intentions to withdraw from the agreement. Earlier this year, millions marched around the world, calling for immediate action against climate change.
