New Zealand’s parliament will not debate a motion that would label the abuses of the Uyghur people in Xinjiang, China, as acts of genocide. And discuss concerns about human rights abuses in the region in more general terms.
The New Zealand government has been under increasing pressure both domestically and from international allies to take a stronger stance on the situation in Xinjiang.
Evidence has emerged from China of mass internment of the Uyghur minority, as well as forced sterilization, forced labour and allegations of mass rape and torture in Xinjiang. Although China has strongly denied accusations of human rights abuses.
Rich nations’ climate targets will mean global heating of 2.4C – study
New climate targets announced by the US and other rich nations in recent weeks have put the world on track for global heating of about 2.4C by the end of the century. That is a 0.2C improvement on the previous forecast of 2.6C, but still substantially above the Paris goal of holding temperature rises to no more than 2C above pre-industrial levels, with an aspiration to limit heating to 1.5C.
Ahead of the Cop26 UN climate talks to be held this November, countries are expected to come up with fresh plans to cut their carbon between now and 2030. This decade is regarded as crucial for climate action, because if emissions continues to rise for the next 10 years, there will be little chance of holding temperature rises within the Paris limits, which represent climate breakdown is likely to become catastrophic and irreversible.

Mexico : au moins 23 morts dans l’effondrement d’un pont au passage d’une rame de métro
L’accident s’est produit vers 22 heures sur la ligne 12 du métro qui traverse le sud de la capitale mexicaine, faisant également près de 70 blessés, selon un bilan préliminaire rapporté par les autorités locales.

La rame de métro, une des plus récentes du réseau, s’est littéralement brisée en deux dans la chute du pont en béton, selon une description d’un photographe de l’Agence France-Presse arrivé sur les lieux. Des pans entiers du pont jonchaient la route au-dessus duquel la structure était suspendue avant de s’effondrer pour des raisons encore inconnues. La carcasse d’une voiture était visible sous les pans de béton qui se sont brisés. On ignore combien de personnes se trouvaient à l’intérieur. Des fonctionnaires du bureau de procureur de la ville procédaient à l’identification des corps extraits des décombres.

Al menos 19 muertos y 846 heridos en seis días de masivas protestas en Colombia

Bukele no descarta despedir a más funcionarios en El Salvador
El presidente de El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, no descartó ayer la posibilidad de continuar la remoción de funcionarios nombrados por sus antecesores, en medio del reclamo internacional y de los mercados, tras la destitución el fin de semana por el Parlamento de un grupo de magistrados y el fiscal general.
Los aliados de Bukele, que controlan 61 de los 85 escaños de la nueva Asamblea Legislativa unicamaral, destituyeron, apenas se invistieron en el cargo el sábado, a los cinco magistrados titulares y cuatro suplentes de la Sala de lo Constitucional de la Corte Suprema, la de mayor peso de ese tribunal, y de inmediato nombró a sus remplazantes.
