In an ambitious new initiative, the Kenyan government is planning to assign each citizen a unique identification number that will be required to go to school, get health care and housing, register to vote, get married and obtain a driver’s license, bank account and even a mobile phone number. In preparation, nearly 40 million Kenyans have already had their fingerprints and faces scanned by a new biometric system that ramped up last spring.
But millions of ethnic, racial and religious minorities — like Mr. Kafe, who is a Kenyan of Nubian descent — are running into obstacles and facing additional scrutiny when they apply for the documents required to get a biometric ID. Many have faced outright rejection.

E.U. Recommends Limiting, but Not Banning, Huawei in 5G Rollout
The European Union told its members on Wednesday that they should limit so-called “high-risk” 5G vendors, a category that includes the Chinese tech giant Huawei, but stopped short of recommending a ban on the firm, despite a lengthy and aggressive campaign by the Trump administration.
The recommendations are as far as the European Union can go in dictating policy to its member nations, whose governments will have the final word on whether and how they want to let Huawei help build their next generation of wireless telecommunications networks.
The European Union guidance, referred to as the “5G toolbox,” is a key moment in the bloc’s intensive work to help its members decide how to navigate fraught political and technical considerations as they and their wireless carriers prepare to invest billions of dollars in telecommunications infrastructure.

German army lacks infantry fighting vehicles, some soldiers forced to use CARS during drills – media
The shortage of operational infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) in the Bundeswehr is now so bad that soldiers are officially advised to use cars during training, a media report claims.
Confidential army documents obtained by the Bild newspaper suggest that military units lacking the necessary equipment should work out “alternative solutions” and find “innovative training opportunities.”
The recommendations, according to the outlet, literally suggest that motorized infantry battalions who do not have enough operational IFVs should replace them with ordinary cars and then tell soldiers to pretend they are jumping out of armored carriers.

Trump’s ‘deal of the century’ is about ignoring Palestinian rights & legitimizing Israel’s occupation – Turkish President Erdogan
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has blasted a plan for resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict presented by Donald Trump, saying the proposal is a blatant attempt to ‘legitimize Israel’s occupation’ of Palestinian territories.
Erdogan, a long-time critic of Israeli policies, lashed out at the US-proposed roadmap in a Wednesday interview with journalists who were accompanying him on his return from a three-country visit to Africa.
“This is the plan to ignore the Palestinians’ rights and legitimize Israel’s occupation,” Erdogan said, as quoted by Anadolu Agency.

Russian military blasts Pompeo’s ‘hypocritical concern’ over ‘attack on Idlib’s innocent civilians’
The Russian Defense Ministry says it is not surprised by the ‘hypocrisy’ of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who voiced ‘concern’ over what he said was a “large-scale offensive against Idlib’s innocent civilians” by Moscow and Damascus.
The US Department of State has never publicly supported Russia’s active fight against international terrorism in Syria, the official representative of the Russian ministry Igor Konashenkov said on Wednesday. The State Department “preaches and voices its concern about the alleged suffering of civilians only when terrorists suffer a crushing defeat and Syrian citizens are finally liberated,” he said.
Konashenkov also cited Washington’s tacit support in recent weeks to the coordinated offensive from Idlib “of the forces described by Pompeo as ‘innocent civilians’ but who in fact had weapons and artillery belonging to the Syrian branch of Al-Qaeda – the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group.”

UN envoy urges halt to ‘alarming military escalation’ in Yemen
The UN special envoy for Yemen has urged a halt to the “alarming military escalation” in fighting between the Saudi-led military coalition and Houthi Shiite rebels. Martin Griffiths warned the UN Security Council at a closed meeting that the recent drastic escalation jeopardizes progress made by the warring parties in de-escalating the conflict, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said on Tuesday.
Less than two weeks ago, Griffiths reported to the council on a major reduction in military operations and other initiatives, AP reported. He expressed hope at the time that this would lead to talks between the government and Houthis on ending the five-year conflict in the Arab world’s poorest nation.

Trump unveils Middle East peace plan with no Palestinian support
Standing next to the smiling Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump announced details of the 181-page plan to cheers and applause. Palestinian leaders were absent from the launch, having pre-emptively rejected his proposal, citing flagrant bias.
A copy of the plan, released by the White House, said the proposal intended to:

Establish Jerusalem as Israel’s “undivided” capital, with a potential Palestinian capital to the east and north of the city.

Recognise the vast majority of Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian territory as part of the country. A Palestinian state would receive territory, mostly desert, near Gaza to compensate for the loss of about 30% of the West Bank. Gaza and the West Bank would be linked by high speed rail.

Recognise the Jordan valley, which makes up about a third of the occupied West Bank, as part of Israel.

Offer a path to some form of Palestinian statehood but with no army, and overarching Israeli security control in some areas, including over the sea. The plan also sets a series of conditions the Palestinians have to meet before receiving independence including the “complete dismantling of Hamas”, which governs Gaza.

The possibility of stripping Israeli citizenship from tens of thousands of Arab Israelis who live in 10 border towns, with those towns and their residents being included into any future state of Palestine.

The Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, criticised the deal as a “conspiracy” that “will not pass”, while in Gaza, the Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhr described the document as worthless. “Palestine will prevail, and Trump and the deal will go to the dustbin of history,” he said.
The Lebanese militant group, Hezbollah, which has fought several wars with Israel, said the plan was an attempt “to wipe out Palestinian people’s rights” and accused some Arab states of being complicit in a “deal of shame”.
The Palestinian prime minister, Mohammad Shtayyeh, said the plan had more to do with Trump and Netanyahu’s legal woes than peace. “This is a plan to protect Trump from impeachment and protect Netanyahu from prison. It is not a Middle East peace plan,” he said.

Coronavirus evacuations begin as China cases outstrip Sars
Japan and the US have airlifted hundreds of their citizens from Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, as officials in China said the death toll from the disease had risen sharply overnight to 132, with nearly 1,500 new cases in the country.
US to put 9,000 South Korea workers on leave as military funding row deepens
The US military said it has begun notifying nearly 9,000 South Korean workers that they will be put on leave starting in April if Seoul and Washington fail to reach a deal on sharing costs for the upkeep of 28,500 US soldiers in South Korea.
The two countries have held six rounds of talks but have been unable to reach an agreement due to differences over Washington’s demand for a sharp hike in Seoul’s contribution for this year.
The salaries of some 8,700 employees who provide administrative, technical and other services for the U.S. military has typically been covered by about 70% of South Korea’s contribution.
US dropped record number of bombs on Afghanistan last year
The US dropped more bombs on Afghanistan in 2019 than any other year since the Pentagon began keeping a tally in 2006, reflecting an apparent effort to force concessions from the Taliban at the negotiating table.
According to new figures released by US central command, US warplanes dropped 7,423 bombs and other munitions on Afghanistan, a nearly eightfold increase from 2015.
The increasing intensity of the air campaign has been accompanied by an increase in civilian casualties attributed to US forces. According to UN data, the US accounted for half the 1,149 civilian deaths attributed to pro-government forces in Afghanistan over the first three-quarters of 2019.

Iran missile strike: 50 US troops now diagnosed with brain injuries
“As of today, 50 US service members have been diagnosed” with traumatic brain injury, the Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Campbell said in a statement about injuries in the attack on the Ain al-Asad airbase in western Iraq.
Symptoms of concussive injuries include headaches, dizziness, sensitivity to light and nausea.

Speaking to the Guardian from the Ecuadorian Amazon, Katan, who became the first indigenous representative at a UN climate action summit last year, said environmental “catastrophes” such as the fires that devastated the world’s largest rainforest in 2019 would continue unless the contributions and human rights of indigenous people were respected.
Katan’s warning came as a new study revealed that parts of the Amazon rainforest under the stewardship of indigenous peoples sequester carbon better than areas with little protection, leading to less deforestation and degradation.
“We are the defenders of nature, of the life of the forests, of our territories,” said Katan, vice-president of Coordinator of the Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon River Basin (Coica). “The world is investing lots of money to implement public policy to combat climate change, help conservation and restoration. But these policies are made in offices by technical experts with little or no knowledge of the Earth.”

Syrian army takes Maaret al-Numan after heavy bombardment
Syrian government forces have captured a strategic rebel-held town in the country's northwest amid a Russia-backed military offensive that has displaced hundreds of thousands of people fleeing to safer areas.
Maaret al-Numan, a former anti-government protest hotspot which has turned into a ghost town after months of bombardment, lies on a key highway connecting the capital, Damascus, to Aleppo.
"Our forces managed in the past few days to stamp out terrorism in many villages and town", including Maaret al-Numan, an army spokesman said in a televised statement on Wednesday.
The army was bent on "hunting down all remaining armed terrorist groups until all Syrian soil has been cleansed of terrorism", he added.
In 2011, Maaret al-Numan was one of the first towns in Idlib province to rise up against President Bashar al-Assad's rule, and the following year, it was captured by rebels fighting against his forces.
Syrian government forces backed by Russian airpower have stepped up the campaign to take control of the province, the last rebel stronghold where millions took refuge after fleeing other parts of Syria earlier in the war.
Pakistan shuts main Afghan border crossing after mortar fire
Pakistan has closed the main border crossing with Afghanistan after mortar bombs landed in Pakistani territory from across the border on Wednesday, a Pakistani official has said.
The Torkham border crossing, at the top of the Khyber Pass, through which thousands of vehicles pass every week, is the main trade link between the uneasy neighbours.
In September last year, Pakistan opened the crossing for 24 hours a day to boost trade.
"Some mortars were fired from across the border in Afghanistan and landed inside Pakistan. They caused some damage to vehicles," Mahmood Aslam Wazir, deputy district commissioner of the area on the Pakistani side, told Reuters News Agency.
Pakistan and Afghanistan are both United States allies but their relations have rarely been close.
Afghanistan has for years accused Pakistan of supporting the Taliban armed group. Pakistan denies doing so and in turn accuses Afghanistan of supporting armed groups fighting the Pakistani government.
Exchanges of fire across a border Afghanistan has never recognised are common.
Afghan security forces killed in Taliban attacks on checkpoints
At least 13 Afghan security forces have been killed and several more injured after Taliban fighters attacked security checkpoints in northern Kunduz province, officials have said.
Eight soldiers and at least four policemen were injured in the overnight assault while three others were taken captive by Taliban fighters, provincial councillor Safiullah Amiri and Aminullah Aydin told German news agency DPA.
The fighters launched the attack from several directions on security checkpoints in the Dasht-e Archi district of Kunduz on Tuesday at about midnight. The clashes continued through early Wednesday morning, the district governor Saduddin Sayyed said.
Sayyed also confirmed that the Taliban seized weapons but said the checkpoints were now back under the control of government forces.
The attack came a day after at least 11 police officers were killed and six others wounded in an attack carried out by the armed group in the capital of Baghlan province.
Kunduz is among the most volatile provinces in Afghanistan where the Taliban have a huge presence and regularly carry out attacks against the government forces.
UAE confirms first cases of new coronavirus
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has confirmed the first cases in the Middle East of the new deadly coronavirus, saying that doctors were treating a family that had recently come from a city at the centre of the outbreak.
The UAE's Ministry of Health said on Wednesday it had diagnosed the coronavirus in a four-member Chinese family.
"All family members are in stable condition and the situation was contained by following the most necessary precautionary measures adopted globally when dealing with infected cases.", the ministry said in a statement carried by the state news agency WAM.

Sa rencontre avec son homologue Macky Sall a été suivie d’un forum économique réunissant des représentants des secteurs privés sénégalais et turcs, un rendez-vous visant à consolider les relations économiques entre les deux pays. Car depuis une dizaine d’années, la Turquie est devenue un « partenaire important pour le Sénégal », a déclaré Macky Sall devant les journalistes, ajoutant : « [Elle] nous accompagne en particulier dans la réalisation diligente d’infrastructures de développement. »

Face au dilemme cornélien posé par le géant chinois Huawei qui l’amenait à choisir, à la veille du Brexit, entre la loyauté au grand frère américain et les intérêts de son propre pays, Boris Johnson a trouvé la parade : le premier ministre britannique a opté, mardi 28 janvier, pour un accès limité de Huawei aux infrastructures les moins sensibles dans le domaine de la 5G. Londres ne cède donc pas aux injonctions de Donald Trump, qui souhaitait une interdiction totale de l’équipementier chinois, mais ne néglige pas pour autant l’impératif de sécurité.
Le bilan de cette double campagne permet de compter les soutiens de Pékin et de Washington : à ce stade, Donald Trump est loin d’avoir gagné la partie. Huawei a réussi à convaincre l’Inde et son énorme marché de téléphonie mobile, ainsi que plusieurs pays émergents comme le Brésil et l’Afrique du sud, de lui ouvrir leurs réseaux 5G. Les discussions sont bien engagées avec la Russie, à laquelle Huawei fait miroiter des partenariats, et avec ses alliés d’Asie centrale : « Notre choix est simple, a confié un responsable russe au chercheur Alexander Gabouev de la fondation Carnegie à Moscou : on achète l’équipement à l’Ouest ou à la Chine ? L’Australie, très exposée à l’espionnage chinois, a suivi les Etats-unis et écarté Huawei, tandis que la Nouvelle-Zélande et le Canada, « Five Eyes » comme elle, hésitent encore. L’Europe est partagée. Atlantiste devant l’éternel, la Pologne a signé avec le vice-président américain Mike Pence, début septembre à Varsovie, un engagement à tenir Huawei à distance de sa 5G, pour raisons de sécurité. Rien de tel pour Viktor Orban, le premier ministre hongrois, qui préfère avoir les mains libres pour négocier avec les Chinois.

“EU rules out Huawei ban — but maps out strict rules on 5G”
The EU has said member states should allow Chinese telecoms giant Huawei to operate within the
bloc — but with strict regulations to protect national security. The US has urged allies not to use
the technology.
The European Commission did not mention Huawei by name, and it did not recommend a ban on
any company in shaping future networks. However, it said strict rules should be applied where
certain suppliers were concerned.
The US has said it believes the company is a potential threat to cybersecurity — and it fears that
the firm could be used to conduct cyber espionage on the part of the Chinese government. It is
lobbying allies, including those in Europe, not to use Huawei.
However, the company provides a relatively inexpensive option for super-fast data transfers
behind technologies, such as self-driving cars and remotely operated factory robots
The operators Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, and Telefonica are all Huawei clients — and they
warn that replacing equipment could cost billions of euros. Huawei leads the global telecoms
equipment industry, having a 28% share of the market share worldwide. Nokia is second on 16%,
and Ericsson third on 13%.
Any ban on Huawei would ultimately be left for individual member states to impose, but the
commission's compromise recommendation provides cover for European capitals to resist
Washington's demands.
On Tuesday, the UK's government said it would also allow a restricted role for Huawei in shaping
the 5G network in Britain.

“Countries evacuate citizens from China as coronavirus infections rise”
Thousands of foreigners are among those quarantined in Wuhan as countries scramble to
evacuate their citizens from China. The number of confirmed cases in the deadly viral outbreak has
risen to nearly 6,000.
Japan and the US were the first to evacuate their citizens from Wuhan on Wednesday as the death
toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China rose to 132 .
With the number of confirmed cases now at nearly 6,000, the scale of the crisis has now exceeded
the number of infected during the 2002-03 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak
that killed roughly 800 people.
German Health Minister Jens Spahn said Wednesday that he expected the federal government to
reach an agreement with authorities in Hesse, the state where Frankfurt Airport is located, in the
next few hours on plans to evacuate German citizens currently in Wuhan.
The European Union will fly citizens home aboard two French planes later this week. South Korea
and Mongolia have planned similar evacuations.
About 50 cases have been recorded outside of China, in South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Nepal,
Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the US, France and Australia. Many countries, including
Germany, have instituted health checks for airplane passengers arriving from China.

US President Donald Trump's Middle East peace plan is largely aligned with Israeli interests, while
the Palestinians' concerns are ignored. It will not end the conflict in the region, says DW's Rainer

what Trump has hailed as the "deal of the century" is actually a misnomer. It is not a deal in the
actual sense of the word, it does not reflect a compromise between two equal partners. Instead, it
is an attempt to impose Trump's ideas on the Palestinians.
The president's so-called deal largely caters to Israel's security interests, save for a few symbolic
concessions to the Palestinians. The Palestinians, who were not even consulted in the formulation
of the plan, would be the clear losers should this proposal be implemented. They could lose areas
currently under Israeli occupation or controlled by settlers though annexation — even though the
Palestinians are entitled to these lands by international law .
Trump's plan supposedly envisions an independent Palestinian state, though they must be
subordinate to Israeli security interests and completely demilitarize. Jerusalem is to become
Israel's "undivided" capital — as Trump unilaterally declared in 2017 — and the Palestinians may
retain some eastern neighborhoods as their future "capital."
Trump declared that his plan might be the last opportunity Palestinians ever have to get their own

“Germany, Europe react to Trump's Middle East peace plan”
Following Trump's release of his Israeli-Palestinian plan, world leaders have responded to his
proposal of a two-state solution with Israeli settlements. The plan calls for a minimum four-year
freeze in settlements.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has called for a balanced approach to breaking the
deadlock. "Only a negotiated two-state solution, acceptable to both sides, can lead to a lasting
peace between Israelis and Palestinians," he said.
"The position of the United Nations on the two-state solution has been defined, throughout the
years, by relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions by which the Secretariat is
bound," said Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for Guterres.
Josep Borrell, the EU's highest-ranking diplomat, said the block will "study and assess" Trump's
plans on the basis of its commitment to a "negotiated and viable two-state solution that takes into
account the legitimate aspirations of both the Palestinians and the Israelis."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson, speaking about the proposal in parliament on Wednesday, stated,
"No peace plan is perfect but this has the merit of a two-state solution, it is a two-state solution, it
would ensure that Jerusalem is both the capital of Israel and of the Palestinian people."
Russia said it would assess the proposal and called on Israelis and Palestinians to negotiate directly
to find a "mutually acceptable compromise."
Trump called the plan a "win-win" for both Israel and Palestinians and said Palestinians should not
miss their chance at independence.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas rejected the plan as "nonsense'' and promised to "resist
the deal in all its forms."
Hundreds of Palestinians protested in the Gaza Strip ahead of the unveiling of the plan. More
protests were expected throughout Wednesday.
The Arab League will hold an urgent meeting on Saturday in response to Trump's proposal. Abbas
is expected to attend.
The longtime Israeli leader said the proposal was "a great plan for Israel" and "a great plan for
peace." He referred to Trump as "the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House."

“Insects are dying and nobody knows how fast”
Conservationists say fears of an insect apocalypse, Armageddon and absolute extinction are
overblown, but acting now could save populations that are plummeting.
Instead of waiting to fill knowledge gaps, 75 experts writing in the journal Nature Ecology and
Evolution are calling for immediate actions that also improve ecosystems and wider society. Short-
term measures such as phasing out pesticides and diversifying farmland could set struggling insect
species on a path to recovery while better data is collected.
Last year, a global review published in the journal Biological Conservation spawned headlines
heralding an " insect apocalypse ," "Armageddon" and "collapse of nature" when it found 40% of
insect species would face the threat of extinction within decades.
IPBES, the UN-convened panel of ecology experts, tentatively put the figure of threatened insect
species at 10% last year, in the most comprehensive study of life on Earth ever undertaken. 40%
might be too high, and 10% in our global assessment is too low, but this is the range.
Insects play a vital role in ecosystems and humans are particularly dependent on them for food.
Where fewer earthworms replenish soil, and dwindling bee and butterfly populations struggle to

Abbas y máximo dirigente político de Hamas se reunirán en Gaza
El líder palestino, Mahmud Abbas, confirmó su disposición a trabajar con Hamas y superar las diferencias, después de haber recibido una llamada del jefe de su oficina política, Ismail Haniyeh, quien le ofreció reunirse de inmediato.
Abbas decidió, entonces, elegir a Gaza como lugar para reunirse, e hizo hincapié en el comienzo de una nueva etapa de acción conjunta.
El presidente palestino confirmó su rechazo al llamado acuerdo del siglo, y señaló que el mismo es una "conspiración que no pasará".
Abbas agregó que lo que Trump anunció fue "una bofetada ante la cual los palestinos no se quedarán con los brazos cruzados y devolverán esta bofetada".

Siria: Continúa avance de operaciones contra terroristas en Idleb
Siria seguirá cumpliendo sus deberes constitucionales para eliminar la presencia terrorista en toda la nación, señala hoy una declaración del Comando General de las Fuerzas Armadas Sirias.
"Nuestras valientes fuerzas lograron en días recientes erradicar el terrorismo de varias localidades como Maaret Al-Nouman, Deir Sharki, Maar Shamreen, Hamedieh, Kafer Rouma y otras 25 localidades," precisa el documento.
En ese sentido, el Comando señala que las operaciones en el sur de la provincia de Idleb, 320 kilómetros al norte de Damasco, "continuarán hasta poner fin a los crímenes terroristas contra la población civil y los ataques a puntos del Ejército Nacional".
Desde Idleb, los grupos extremistas encabezados por la llamada Junta para la Liberación del Levante, otrora Frente Al Nusra, lanzan continuados ataques e impiden el uso de tres corredores humanitarios habilitados para la evacuación de los civiles.

El motivo, según la dependencia, es que debido a la oleada de migrantes reciente por la última
caravana se han incrementado "considerablemente" las solicitudes de ingreso de estas
asociaciones y se ha tomado esta decisión para no "obstaculizar la operatividad de las
instalaciones". Unas horas más tarde, la Secretaría de Gobernación ha desconocido el comunicado
y alega que se trató de una medida no supervisada por autoridades superiores, aunque no han
ofrecido más información al respecto. Las organizaciones afectadas, sin embargo, aseguran que el
veto continúa.
La Ley de Migración establece en su artículo 226 que todo migrante que se encuentre en una
estación o estancia provisional tiene derecho a ser visitado por familiares o "representantes de
organismos no gubernamentales". Estas organizaciones hasta ahora tenían permisos permanentes
de acceso y un calendario de visitas acordado con la institución.

La lideresa de la oposición en Perú, Keiko Fujimori, investigada por lavado de activos durante la
campaña presidencial de 2011, ha vivido dos meses de libertad antes de que un juez de
investigación preparatoria dictara este martes su retorno a la prisión preventiva, esta vez por 15
meses.
La empresa brasileña Odebrecht aportaba a campañas electorales, como la de Fujimori, con la
expectativa de que los políticos favorecieran a la empresa cuando ascendieran al poder.
Aunque varios jueces y fiscales bajo investigación por esa red están detenidos o separados de la
magistratura temporalmente por dicha causa, los fiscales supremos Pedro Chávarry, Tomás Gálvez
y Víctor Rodriguez han seguido entre 2019 y 2020 obstaculizando la labor del Equipo Lava Jato,
mediante investigaciones de control interno y desprestigiando las pesquisas en la prensa. Los tres
fiscales y el exjuez Hinostroza fueron protegidos por la mayoría fujimorista hasta que el Congreso
fue disuelto a fines de septiembre último.

momento de influir en la construcción de un mejor país, más justo e igualitario", dijo a la Agencia
Efe Rosa Moreno Moore, presidenta del nuevo partido.
Alternativa Feminista espera la aprobación de las autoridades electorales y cuenta con más de 900
simpatizantes. También necesita 10.000 firmas para poder consolidarse y presentarse a las
elecciones para la Asamblea Constituyente de octubre que redactará una nueva Constitución.
“La única manera de participar en el proceso constituyente sin depender de los actuales partidos
políticos es precisamente dando vida a una nueva fuerza política”, explica el partido en un
comunicado de prensa.
Las exigencias de las feministas se han transformado aunque el impulso que las mueve sigue unido
a la libertad y el deseo de cambio. “Aborto libre y gratuito para todas las mujeres, combatir la
violencia machista y las urgencias planteadas en la explosión social de la rebelión del 17 octubre
sobre el sistema de pensiones, la educación y la salud públicas”, señala a Verne Rosa Moreno

Entre algunos de los principios del PAF aparecen el respeto a los derechos de las mujeres y las
comunidades LGBTQ+, el reparto equitativo de tareas entre hombres y mujeres, la libertad de los
pueblos originarios y su derecho a la autodeterminación, la protección del medio ambiente, la
educación pública y gratuita, la lucha contra la corrupción y la remuneración de las trabajadoras

Elogio golpista a la policía de Bolivia por los servicios prestados
La misma policía de Bolivia que amotinada participó del golpe de Estado contra Evo Morales, hoy está a la defensiva y en otro pico de descrédito como sucedió varias veces a lo largo de su historia. Surcada en el pasado por denuncias de narcotráfico, extorsiones, enriquecimiento ilícito y una politización que la llevó a apoyar el derrocamiento del ex presidente, su tropa es repudiada por la población de manera creciente. No quedan al margen los principales responsables, sus jefes o ex jefes, con una trayectoria que disparó denuncias de todo tipo durante al menos las últimas dos décadas.
A esta fuerza clave en la caída del gobierno del MAS, la que reprimió y cometió masacres en Senkata y Sacaba junto a los militares, la intenta apuntalar como puede el actual ministro de Gobierno, Arturo Murillo. La necesita y por eso en la clausura del último curso internacional de instructores declaró que la Policía nacional “está viviendo uno de sus mejores momentos”. No piensan lo mismo ni siquiera en la Unidad Demócrata (UD) de Samuel Doria Medina que apoyó la caída de Evo. Dos diputadas de ese partido, Lourdes Millares y Micaela Nina, presentaron en las cámaras de diputados y senadores una carta para pedir la anulación del proceso de ascensos en la Policía. Keiko Fujimori volvió a la cárcel
Desde Lima.De regreso a la cárcel. Keiko Fujimori, dos veces candidata presidencial y cabeza del fujimorismo, vuelve a prisión dos meses después de haberla abandonado. Un juez dictaminó 15 meses de prisión preventiva para la hija del encarcelado ex dictador Alberto Fujimori, acusada de lavado y otros delitos relacionados al financiamiento con dinero negro de sus campañas electorales de 2011 y 2016. Keiko ya estuvo en prisión preventiva entre octubre de 2018 y noviembre de 2019, pero salió en libertad gracias a un fallo dividido del Tribunal Constitucional (TC). La fiscalía rechazó la cuestionada decisión del TC y, con nuevos elementos, volvió a pedir la detención de Keiko, que el juez concedió. La detención de la jefa del fujimorismo se da dos días después de la contundente derrota de su partido en las elecciones legislativas.

España se enreda en el rediseño de la relación con América Latina
Las relaciones entre el nuevo gobierno de Pedro Sánchez y América Latina no comenzaron con buen pie. El Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores de España, en cabeza ahora de Arancha González Laya, pretendió el lunes rebajar el rango de la política con nuestro continente al eliminar la Secretaría de Estado para Iberoamérica.
Sin embargo, tras la polémica que levantó el intento, se rectificó este martes y creó la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores y con Iberoamérica y el Caribe.
Hay un acuerdo general sobre la importancia de las relaciones. “Latinoamérica es una prioridad para la política exterior española”, dice José María Peredo, catedrático de política internacional de la Universidad Europea de Madrid. “La sociedad española, las instituciones democráticas con la Corona a la cabeza y la voluntad mayoritaria de los ciudadanos están con los valores comunes basados en la historia, la cultura común, los intereses económicos mutuos y la democracia”, agrega.

Colombia le apuesta a tener un satélite propio de última tecnología
La posibilidad de que Colombia tenga un satélite de observación de la Tierra con características de última tecnología comenzó a abrirse paso este año. El pasado 13 de enero se dio vía libre, a través de un documento de Consejo Nacional de Política (Conpes), para que se empiece a avanzar en la búsqueda del dispositivo ideal.

Comunidades indígenas frenan obra del Tren Maya
La organización Consejo Regional Indígena y Popular de Xpujil (Cripx) informó ayer que comunidades indígenas pertenecientes al pueblo maya peninsular y chol, asentadas en Xpujil, municipio de Calakmul, Campeche, obtuvieron una suspensión provisional de la ejecución del proyecto de Tren Maya, que implicaría detener las licitaciones de tramos iniciadas en la primera semana de enero, hasta resolver la suspensión definitiva.
En su fallo, el juzgado primero de distrito en Campeche acordó conceder la suspensión provisional para que las cosas se mantengan en el estado en que se encuentran, con el fin de que las autoridades responsables, con independencia del resultado de la consulta realizada en relación con el denominado Tren Maya, se abstengan de decretar la aprobación de dicho proyecto, o bien, al haber sido decretada dicha aprobación, se abstengan de realizar actos tendientes a la ejecución de dicho proyecto, hasta resolverse la suspensión definitiva.

La Comisión Permanente exige conocer las bases de la consulta sobre el Tren Maya
La Comisión Permanente del Congreso solicitó al gobierno federal un informe del proceso de planeación y ejecución de la consulta a los pueblos indígenas sobre el Tren Maya, que incluya la información entregada a las comunidades sobre el proyecto y les haya permitido emitir un voto razonado.
El diputado Marco Andrade (Morena) sostuvo que la consulta fue realizada de manera libre, previa e informada, de buena fe, y sugirió constituir un grupo que haga un recorrido por las comunidades incluidas en la ruta de la obra.

Abre gobierno a la iniciativa privada inversión en energía
Inversiones del sector privado en el rubro energético, hasta por 100 mil millones de dólares –cifra superior al saldo de la deuda externa pública–, fueron anunciados ayer por Alfonso Romo Garza, jefe de la Oficina de la Presidencia y enlace del titular del Ejecutivo, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, con el empresariado nacional.
Dio a conocer que a más tardar en tres semanas el sector privado y la administración pública presentarán un programa de inversión para el sector energético, que incluirá alianzas de Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) con firmas privadas, las cuales estarán sustentadas en contratos especiales. Indicó que serán 137 proyectos, incluso más, y su principal objetivo será impulsar los niveles de inversión para detonar el crecimiento económico.

Juárez, algo parecido a un campo de exterminio para mujeres
Ser mujer en Ciudad Juárez es casi una sentencia de muerte, pues aunque el escenario de feminicidios nunca cambió en esa urbe fronteriza, la visibilidad y el entendimiento público al respecto sí se redujo, lo que ha reafirmado en muchas de ellas una convicción definitiva: sólo nos tenemos a nosotras y sólo en nosotras podemos confiar para exigir justicia si un día somos asesinadas.
Así lo afirma una integrante de la colectiva Hijas de su Maquilera Madre, a la cual pertenecía la artista y luchadora social feminista Isabel Cabanillas, asesinada el pasado 20 de enero. A apenas unos días de la agresión, intenta describir qué es Juárez, cómo es caminarla y cuáles son las alternativas de resistencia en la que describe como una de las ciudades más violentas del mundo para ser mujer.

2019, el más letal para migrantes en América, con 800 decesos: OIM
Al menos 800 personas perdieron la vida cruzando desiertos, ríos y territorios remotos en diferentes rutas migratorias del continente americano en 2019, particularmente en la frontera México-Estados Unidos, de acuerdo con datos del Proyecto Migrantes Desaparecidos (MMP, por sus siglas en inglés), compilados por la Organización Internacional para las Migraciones (OIM).

Guardia, INM y PF vigilan 24 horas los cruces ilegales en el Suchiate
San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chis., El coordinador regional de la Guardia Nacional (GN) en Tapachula, Carlos Hugo Montiel Sánchez, aseguró que las 24 horas hay personal apostado a lo largo de los pasos ilegales del río Suchiate –que separa a México de Guatemala– para evitar que indocumentados ingresen al país.
“Hay puestos de control –móviles y fijos– conjuntos con personal del Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM) y de la Policía Federal, además de otras autoridades”, explicó en entrevista colectiva.
