Brexit, Iran, Huawei: What John Bolton’s ‘interim deals’ could cost

'Scores' killed in Yemen as UAE-backed fighters seize parts of Aden

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Aden told the Guardian that large parts of the city were also left without electricity and water during the fighting after services were targeted. Humanitarian staff warned that any further fighting between forces allied with the two coalition partners would be “devastating”.

The clashes, which pitted the forces backed by the two erstwhile Gulf allies in the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen against each other, have further complicated what is already the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophe, threatening a “new civil war within a civil war”, according to the thinktank Crisis Group.

Indian Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft enters Lunar Transfer Trajectory

NEW DELHI, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The final orbit raising manoeuvre of Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft was successfully carried out earlier on Wednesday, according to a statement of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

'Peace deal is near': What we know so far about US-Taliban talks

Eighth round of talks ends without announcement of agreement; two sides to consult respective leaderships on next steps.

Shereena Qazi

The eighth round of negotiations between the United States and the Taliban ended on Monday in the Qatari capital, Doha, with the group indicating that a peace agreement will be finalised and an announcement made in the coming weeks.

Following the conclusion of the talks that began on August 4, both sides said they would consult their respective leaderships on the next steps.

Since last year, the two sides have held discussions over a potential agreement that is focused on four key issues: a Taliban guarantee that it will not allow foreign armed groups and fighters to use Afghanistan as a launchpad to conduct attacks outside the country; the complete withdrawal of US and NATO forces; an intra-Afghan dialogue; and a permanent ceasefire.

The Taliban has long refused to negotiate with the Afghan government, which has repeatedly invited the group for talks with no success.

PM Khan: Modi has committed 'strategic blunder' in Kashmir

Khan says Pakistan not at war with India but against its ideology after Kashmir's special status revoked.

Khan, while addressing parliamentarians in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Wednesday, said the Indian government's decision to scrap the Muslim-majority region's autonomy will be "very heavy" on Modi and his Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as he reaffirmed his support for the Kashmiri people.

Both India and Pakistan claim the entire region of Kashmir in full but rule it in part. The nuclear-armed neighbours have fought two of their three wars over the disputed Himalayan territory.
