Pentagon considers 'adjustments' to US troop levels in S Korea
The Pentagon is considering "adjustments" to its military presence in South Korea and around the globe as it shifts from years of countering insurgencies and armed groups in the greater Middle East to focusing on China, the defence secretary, Mark Esper, said on Tuesday.

China vows response after US orders Houston consulate general closed
China’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the US for asking the Chinese Consulate General in Houston to close down, a reckless and dangerous move which analysts said will further flare up ongoing tensions between the two largest economies in the world.
Some video footage circulating on social media showed documents being burned in the courtyard of the consulate general on Wednesday, with police and firefighters present at the scene.
The last time the Trump administration ordered a foreign consulate on American territory to close down was in August 2017, when it ordered Russia to close its consulate in San Francisco and two diplomatic annexes, in New York and Washington.
Some US-China relations observers and legal experts also suggested that it is possible that China will ask the US to close the US Consulate General in Hong Kong as a countermeasure, a move which is conducive for Hong Kong’s stability, as US consulate staff there have played a role in the months-long unrests in Hong Kong last year, observers said.

In terms of 5G technology, the US may not be able to build its own 5G club by pressuring countries to exclude Huawei, which has occupied a large market share in the field. 5G technical standards are formulated by large companies in many countries. Huawei has reached an internationally leading level, and its role in the development of technical standards cannot be simply ruled out.

FM urges US to tell truth over Fort Detrick, refuting Wuhan biolab conspiracy theory
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the US to tell the international community the truth about an infectious disease research lab under the US Army, while refuting the conspiracy theory over the Wuhan biology laboratory, after a US cable triggered rumors that the COVID-19 pandemic may have started from the Wuhan lab.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a press conference on Wednesday that Yuan Zhiming, a member of the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) and director of the National Biosafety Laboratory in Wuhan, had made a comprehensive response to the public attention over the lab.
Wang quoted Yuan as saying that the laboratory, which has high standards of biological safety facilities, has established a strict management system requiring all researchers to pass theoretical and practical training, and to be qualified and approved before joining in the lab.
Wang's remark was a response to US media reports that the country's State Department has released a 2018 cable that claims the coronavirus escaped from the Wuhan's lab.
"Speaking of the truth, we would like the US government to tell the truth about the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, Maryland to US and the international community," Wang said.
The US lab is causing wide anger for its reopening in April regardless of US and global citizens' opposition after months of shutdown for reported "structural defects."
People doubt the possible link between the institute and a series of deadly disease outbreaks, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has caused more than 140,000 deaths in the US.

La Justicia de Brasil autorizó la exhumación del exdictador paraguayo Alfredo Stroessner sepultado en Brasilia en 2006. La resolución fue tomada por el Superior Tribunal de Justicia (STJ) en respuesta a una acción presentada por el paraguayo Enrique Alfredo Fleitas que dice ser hijo del general. Además, Fleitas reclama una herencia que se calcula en unos 20 millones de dólares. La exhumación fue aceptada por la hija y única heredera de Stroessner , Graciela Concepción Stroessner Mora.
