Is new Cold War emerging between China and US? FM spokesperson suggests two countries work together

Is a new Cold War emerging between China and the US? The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the current US policy is based on a strategic misjudgment that lacks factual evidence, and is full of emotional catharsis and McCarthy-like paranoia. China has always believed that the two countries should not seek to transform each other, but jointly explore ways for their different systems and civilizations to peacefully coexist, and this requires the US to work with China in the same direction.

It seems that every Chinese investment has a political purpose, every student studying abroad has a spying background, and every cooperation initiative has an ulterior motive.

Hua noted that over the past few decades, China-US cooperation has done many important things, which have not only promoted the development of the two countries, but also contributed to world peace and jointly resolved some urgent global issues.

China’s economic performance will crush US’ lies

China's GDP grew by 3.2 percent in the second quarter. It is definitely one of the best in the world. It is a reflection of China's remarkable performance in the epidemic control. China is one of the few countries with the ability to quickly put out any sporadic outbreaks of disease and keep local cases close to zero.

The US' economy in the Q2 must be in a mess and let's hope it won't get jealous. The Trump administration should reflect on its shortsightedness of the relationship between fighting the epidemic and restoring the economy, and reflect on its approach of shifting the blame to China.

China should not be complacent. Our economy is still a long way from full recovery, with a lot of service industries, from transportation to tourism and movies, yet to be restored

US can’t afford ‘nuclear’ option to hurt HK finance

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed the Hong Kong Autonomy Act and an order to end the preferential trade status for Hong Kong, following the enforcement of a new security law in the southern Chinese city.

Politically speaking, the new bill - which will give the US "new tools" to impose sanctions on Chinese individuals and entities involved in the national security legislature - is a gross interference in China's internal affairs. On the economic front, by playing nearly all possible cards, the US has made no secret of its malicious attempt to attack the Hong Kong economy. That, however, won't shake the city's status as a financial hub as the fog of political uncertainty is lifting.

restricting Hong Kong from purchasing the greenback could also be an option, but that would be a "financial nuclear bomb" that would hurt the US' financial hegemony more than the Hong Kong economy, according to financial insiders. While the impact of financial sanctions against individual entities could be limited, the same could generate devastating effects on the global financial market if their target is a financial hub, as important as Hong Kong. The US clearly cannot afford to punish China at the cost of impairing global confidence in dollar-denominated financial assets.

Judging from the recent performance of the Hong Kong financial market, the situation is expected to stabilize soon as the city is bound to benefit from more favorable policies from the central government. In fact, many connectivity policies have already been implemented in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which is expected to significantly expand the market space for the cluster of cities in South China.

How close can US and Vietnam be?

In the domain of politics, there is no fundamental conflict between China and Vietnam apart from the South China Sea issue. Beijing and Hanoi have similar political systems. They have common interests in safeguarding their social

On the other hand, Washington has never given up its attempts to promote the "color revolutions" in Hanoi. Taking advantage of various social issues such as democracy and human rights, the US has vigorously stirred up frictions within Vietnam. Hanoi has remained soberly aware and vigilant in this regard.

Cooperation in trade and investment between Vietnam and the US has been an important driving force for the advancement of their bilateral ties over the past 25 years. Bilateral trade has increased over 170 times from $450 million in 1995 to $77.6 billion in 2019. The US has listed Vietnam as a preferred partner in US supply chain.

But if the US' involvement in the South China Sea escalates regional tensions or breaks the balance between China, Vietnam and the US, then the development of Vietnam will be disrupted. Vietnam's losses will outweigh its gains.

Hong Kong businesses worried after US downgrade

Hong Kong has long been one of the world's most freewheeling economies, revelling in laissez-faire economics and thriving on openness. It's rebounded from crisis after crisis, but China's controversial new security law looks set to impact all areas of the Hong Kong economy.
