'Largest drone war in the world': How airpower saved Tripoli
Air power has played an increasingly important role in the Libyan conflict. The relatively flat featureless desert terrain of the north and coast means that ground units are easily spotted, with few places to hide.
The air forces of both the United Nations-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) and eastern-based commander Khalifa Haftar and his self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA) use French and Soviet-era fighter jets, antiquated and poorly maintained.
While manned fighter aircraft have been used, for the most part the air war has been fought by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones. With nearly 1,000 air strikes conducted by UAVs, UN Special Representative to Libya Ghassan Salame called the conflict "the largest drone war in the world".
Tensions boil in Hong Kong as China national security law looms
Hong Kong's legislature was suspended and two pro-democracy politicians ejected from the chamber on Thursday after scuffles between politicians debating a controversial bill that would make it a criminal offence to "disrespect" China's national anthem, as tensions spiked in the semi-autonomous territory.

China's parliament approves controversial Hong Kong national security law
The Chinese parliament has approved plans for a bill that threatens to limit freedoms in the semi-autonomous state. The move will bypass Hong Kong's internal legislature to punish acts that subvert state power
Beijing has asserted the law change will be tightly focused and non-threatening. Its plan includes outposts of mainland agencies to curb what Beijing calls interference by foreign countries.
Prominent Hong Kong pro-democracy activists Joshua Wong on Thursday called on the international community to stand up against Beijing's legislative moves.
Israel thwarted attack on water systems: cyber chief
Israel's cyber chief has said the country prevented a major cyber attack on its water systems last month. He said it was the first attempt to use cyber technology to disrupt real life.
If Israel's National Cyber Directorate had not detected the attack in real time, chemicals could have been mixed into the country's water source in the wrong proportions, causing a "harmful and disastrous" outcome, Unna said.
Unna did not refer to Iran directly in his address, nor did he mention a cyberattack on an Iranian port earlier this month.
That attack is presumed to have been an act of retaliation on the part of Israel.Unna said the attempt assault on Israel's water systems was the first time in modern history that "we can see something like this aiming to cause damage to real life not to IT or data."
Recent developments had ushered in a new era of cyber warfare, he said.
"Cyber winter is coming, and coming even faster than I suspected," he said. ``We are just seeing the beginning.''

Poor weather delays SpaceX launch at Cape Canaveral
SpaceX, Elon Musk's aerospace company, has postponed the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Crew Dragon capsule, which was to take NASA astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). Bad weather forced officials to call off the launch just a few minutes before the scheduled lift-off at 20:30 GMT/UTC.
Wednesday's launch would have made SpaceX the first private company to launch people into space, albeit on the taxpayer's dime.
The mission marks an important step towards ending NASA's dependence on Russian rockets.

Minneapolis mayor calls for arrest of police officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck
The mayor said people "can't turn a blind eye," adding that the man who died at the police's hands "deserves justice." Donald Trump said that he had asked the FBI and DOJ to "expedite" an investigation.
Protesters have taken to the streets in Minneapolis, despite the coronavirus pandemic. On Tuesday, thousands marched more than 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) from the intersection where Floyd died to the police precinct station in that part of the city. Police fired tear gas and bean bag rounds into the crowds of protesters around dusk.

Meng ruling makes Ottawa new frontline between Washington and Beijing
The Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada, on Wednesday (Canadian local time) argued that the case against Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of China's high-tech giant Huawei, meets a standard called "double criminality." It ruled that extradition proceedings against Meng should proceed.
The judgment does not necessarily mean Meng will be extradited to the US. She can appeal the verdict with two avenues of action.
US Attorney General William Barr said Huawei "cannot be trusted" and labeled the Chinese high-tech firm a security threat. What Huawei directly threatens is the information hegemony of the US. In particular, it will make Washington lose the power of global surveillance and global sanctions. In other words, the new industrial revolution represented by Huawei may directly bury US hegemony. The US has thus taken three strategic steps against Huawei.
