The Nord Stream 2 pipeline between Russia and Germany will not move forward if Russia invades Ukraine, the US state department has said, in a significant strengthening of the west’s previous position on the strategically vital gas supply.
As tension ratcheted up over Russia’s military buildup on its neighbour’s eastern border, state department spokesperson Ned Price said on Wednesday night that the Biden administration was “working with Germany” to ensure it could withstand the loss of the pipeline.

At least three rockets have landed in the Baghdad International Airport compound and near an adjacent US airbase, damaging one disused civilian aeroplane, Iraqi police sources said.
Rocket attacks, which the United States and some Iraqi officials blame on Iran-aligned Shia armed groups who oppose the US military presence in the region, have regularly hit the complex in recent years.

El jefe de la diplomacia rusa respondió así este viernes (28.01.2022) a un pregunta de si habrá guerra debido las tensiones con Occidente y en torno a Ucrania. "Si depende de Rusia no habrá guerra. No queremos guerras, pero tampoco permitiremos que se ignoren y se pisoteen groseramente nuestros intereses", dijo Lavrov.
Según el ministro ruso, las respuestas de Estados Unidos a las exigencias de garantías de seguridad presentadas por Rusia son "bastante confusas" pero contienen elementos racionales en "asuntos secundarios", como en el asunto relativo al emplazamiento de misiles de corto y medio alcance.

Extremistas atacan puesto de seguridad en Pakistán; hay 11 muertos.
Combatientes extremistas atacaron un puesto de seguridad en una zona remota del suroeste de Pakistán, provocando un enfrentamiento en el que murieron 10 soldados y un agresor, informó el ejército el jueves.
El ataque ocurrió a primeras horas del miércoles en Kech, una localidad en la provincia de Baluchistán, según un comunicado del ejército. Añadió que los soldados respondieron a la agresión y abatieron a un atacante.
Ningún grupo o individuo se adjudicó la responsabilidad del ataque.

La autoridad electoral venezolana, controlada por el chavismo, declaró este jueves "improcedente" la solicitud de referendo para revocar el mandato del presidente Nicolás Maduro, previsible luego que la oposición abandonara el proceso por considerar que las condiciones impuestas lo hacían inviable.
