Covid-19 Live Updates: Trump’s New Virus Adviser Has Questioned Mask Use
Dr. Scott W. Atlas has argued that the science of mask wearing is uncertain, that children cannot pass on the coronavirus and that the role of the government is not to stamp out the virus but to protect its most vulnerable citizens as Covid-19 takes its course. Ideas like these, both ideologically freighted and scientifically disputed, have propelled Dr. Atlas, a radiologist and senior fellow at Stanford University’s conservative Hoover Institution, into President Trump’s White House, where he is pushing to reshape the administration’s response to the pandemic.

Melting Glaciers Are Filling Unstable Lakes. And They’re Growing.
Nearly freezing and often an otherworldly shade of blue, glacial lakes form as glaciers melt and retreat. These lakes are a source of drinking and irrigation water for many communities. But they can turn deadly in an instant when the rocks that hold them in place shift and send torrents of water coursing downstream.

Indian special forces member killed in China border skirmish
A soldier of Tibetan origin with India's special forces has reportedly been killed in the latest border confrontation between India and China on their contested Himalayan border, fuelling concerns of a wider military confrontation between the two regional powers.

Czech Republic's complaint against FM's warning nonsense
Shortly after Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned that Czech Senate speaker Milos Vystrcil will "pay a heavy price" for making an official trip to the island of Taiwan, Czech Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček tweeted on Monday that "Minister Wang's statements are over the edge." Petříček said the strong words Wang used "do not belong to relations between the two sovereign countries," calling on China to pursue "factual, practical cooperation without emotions that do not belong in diplomacy."
Which side on earth has been "over the edge?" Abiding by the one-China principle is the commitment made by countries that have established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. It's also a universally recognized norm. When Vystrcil arrived in the island of Taiwan on Sunday on his official trip - a blatant violation of the one-China principle and China's sovereignty - he and the Czech Republic will inevitably meet China's opposition, and must bear the consequences
It's still unknown what countermeasures China might take. But making those who infringe on China's sovereignty pay a price is the demand and stance of Chinese society. Vystrcil's provocation has drawn the ire of the Chinese public. Many netizens suggested that China respond by imposing sanctions, or even cutting economic or diplomatic ties.

China, Europe in need of cooperative endeavors against diverse provocations
China and Europe have renewed frequent interactions recently. Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on August 24 met Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó in South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. On August 25, Wang began his trip to Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, France and Germany.
Thus, China and Europe should consolidate their cooperative endeavors and reject all kinds of provocations. Although China is facing very complicated international situations, it still adheres to peaceful development, opening-up and reciprocal cooperation
Europe also needs to prevent being caught up with an antagonistic mind-set fueled from Washington. Otherwise, it may lose a bright future of deeper and wider cooperation with China. On matters of free trade, the Nord Stream-2, 5G and multilateralism, Europe is under pressure from the US. But they are very weary of the current state of affairs and can plainly see the US is disregarding its partners and allies for raw self-interest

Chinese FM makes four-point proposal to promote multilateralism
China and France, as major responsible countries, need to actively promote and practice multilateralism which is essential for the well-being of most countries, especially small- and medium-sized ones, visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here on Saturday.
First, China and France need to adhere to the concept of multilateralism. The two sides should actively promote multilateralism on various occasions, resist unilateralism and make multilateralism the consensus of the international community.
Second, both sides should take multilateral actions. China supports France in continuing to play a leading role in tackling climate change. (...)
Third, China and France should abide by multilateral agreements. Unilateralism, including irresponsible withdrawal from international organizations or violation of international agreements, is unpopular. China and France should strengthen coordination and cooperation on international affairs, and safeguard major outcomes of international agreements and multilateral diplomacy, such as the Iran nuclear deal.
Fourth, the two sides should strengthen multilateral institutions. The United Nations is the most important platform for supporting and practicing multilateralism, and the two sides should support the United Nations in playing its due central role in international affairs

India first to provoke, responsibility rests with India: Chinese FM
The Indian army's statement admitting that its troops pre-empted the Chinese military activity fully proves that it was the first to illegally cross the border in an act of provocation, the first to unilaterally change the status quo in the border area and the first to violate the important consensus reached by the two sides, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
Since the beginning of this year, the Indian side has repeatedly violated bilateral agreements and the important consensus on the western section of the China-India border, unilaterally changed the status quo by force, undermined peace and stability in the border area and caused tensions in the border area.
Indian troops once again illegally crossed the Line of Actual Control near the south bank of the Pangong Tso Lake and near the Reqin Mountain on Monday. Earlier in the day, India, which first moved to accuse China of carrying out "provocative military movements," said it had preempted Chinese military activity.

Amazon Drivers Are Hanging Smartphones in Trees to Get More Work

Drivers in on the plot then sync their own phones with the ones in the tree and wait nearby for an order pickup. China and India, two nuclear-armed powers with a combined population of 2.7 billion, have been gathering thousands of troops at a disputed border in a remote area of the Himalayas.
