How Pimco's Cayman-Based Hedge Fund Can Profit From the Fed's Rescue

The Federal Reserve opened a highly anticipated emergency lending program in June, a revamped version of one that handed sophisticated investors double-digit returns during the 2008 financial crisis. The 2020 version is backed by congressional funding, and the rules stipulate that only American companies can participate as borrowers. For Pimco’s offshore fund, there was an easy way to still benefit.

US to pull 12,000 troops out of Germany as Trump blasts 'delinquent' Berlin

Of a total of 11,900 personnel that will be leaving Germany under the proposal, 6,400 will be returning to the US, from where they could be used for rotational deployments in eastern Europe and around the world, while 5,600 will be repositioned within other Nato countries, particularly Belgium and Italy.

Mark Esper repeatedly denied that the decision was motivated by Trump’s frequently expressed desire to move troops out of Germany to teach Berlin a lesson for not spending enough on defence. The Pentagon put out a statement saying the withdrawal would “strengthen Nato, enhance the deterrence of Russia” and boost the flexibility of the US military.

Minutes later, the president told journalists at the White House he had ordered the troop withdrawal because Berlin was being “delinquent” by not spending enough on defence.

'Too much power': Congress grills top tech CEOs in combative antitrust hearing

The historic hearing in Washington saw Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Tim Cook of Apple, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Sundar Pichai of Google’s parent Alphabet appear before members of the House judiciary’s antitrust subcommittee and face intense questioning from lawmakers from both sides of the aisle.

The hearing comes at a fraught moment for the tech giants with Republican and Democrats both highly critical of their dominance.

Donald Trump, who has attacked the tech companies on numerous occasions, weighed in ahead of the hearing: “If Congress doesn’t bring fairness to Big Tech, which they should have done years ago, I will do it myself with Executive Orders. In Washington, it has been ALL TALK and NO ACTION for years, and the people of our Country are sick and tired of it!”

US hegemonic ambition in S.China Sea cannot be concealed

The latest effort US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made to smear China is to accuse China of regarding the South China Sea as its "maritime empire." In a tweet on Saturday, Pompeo said "the South China Sea is not China's maritime empire," and urged "free nations" to unite to prevent China from taking "more territory."

The South China Sea conflicts among claimants have been greatly alleviated in recent years. The biggest destabilizing force in the South China Sea situation now is the US.

The only country that has fully acted in tune with the US in provoking China over the South China Sea issue is Australia, the US' loyal ally

No to the new cold war with China: an African American perspective

China's Ambassador to the US posed a very simple question: "Is the US ready or willing to live with another country with a very different culture, a very different political and economic system ... in peace?"

For the Black liberation and anti-imperialist movement in the US, we are clear - War is a class issue and we say not one drop of blood from the Black working class and poor to defend the capitalist oligarchy.

It is important that this position is clear because the US state wants to disconnect the ongoing black struggle for human rights, anti-colonialism, and authentic democracy in the US from the broader anti-colonial and revolutionary struggles and movements globally.

The US state wants to project our movement as one concerned only with Black Lives or winning "civil rights" or something called racial justice, which objectively is an impossibility for a white supremacist settler colonial state.

Today the language might be coded but its intent to shore up the common interests of the Pan-European colonial/capitalist white supremacist project is absolutely clear.

That is why BAP says that we must name the Pan-European white supremacist colonial/capitalist patriarchy as an existential threat to all of humanity.

Our task must be to take away the power that they have to destroy the world.

Thomas Wieder y Gilles Paris

Benjamin Barthe y Clothilde Mraffko
