WASHINGTON — The United States has charged WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange with one count of conspiracy to hack a computer related to his role in the 2010 release of reams of secret American documents, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Thursday just hours after British authorities arrested him in London.
The single charge, conspiracy to commit computer intrusion, stems from what prosecutors said was his agreement to break a password to a classified United States government computer. It is not an espionage charge, a significant detail that will come as a relief to press freedom advocates. The United States government had considered until at least last year charging him with an espionage-related offense.

WASHINGTON — Soon after he took over as C.I.A. director, Mike Pompeo privately told lawmakers about a new target for American spies: Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.
Intent on finding out more about Mr. Assange’s dealings with Russian intelligence, the C.I.A. began last year to conduct traditional espionage against the organization, according to American officials. At the same time, federal law enforcement officials were reconsidering Mr. Assange’s designation as a journalist and debating whether to charge him with a crime.
Mr. Pompeo and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions unleashed an aggressive campaign against Mr. Assange, reversing an Obama-era view of WikiLeaks as a journalistic entity. Omar Hassan al-Bashir Is Removed as Sudan’s President
GULU, Uganda — Sudan’s military ousted President Omar al-Bashir on Thursday, the defense minister announced, ending a 30-year authoritarian rule in the face of mass street protests that have swept the country.
Defense Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf said that Mr. al-Bashir had been taken into custody, the government had been dissolved and the Constitution had been suspended. He said there would be a two-year transition period, with the military in charge, and announced a 10 p.m. curfew.
Mr. al-Bashir, 75, who has long been regarded as a pariah in the West and is wanted by the International Criminal Court on genocide charges in connection with atrocities in Darfur, had ruled Sudan longer than any leader since the country gained independence in 1956.

Pompeo Is Warned Against Sidestepping Congress for Conflict With Iran
WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo left open the possibility on Wednesday of entering a conflict with Iran without first seeking explicit congressional approval, telling senators “there is no doubt there is a connection” between Al Qaeda and Iran.
His comments came two days after the Trump administration designatedIran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as a foreign terrorist group, and were likely to fuel concerns of American military action against the country.
Senator Rand Paul, Republican of Kentucky, pushed Mr. Pompeo to commit that the Trump administration would not attack Iran under a war authorization allowing the use of military force against Al Qaeda and other extremist groups responsible for the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Julian Assange arrested at Ecuadorian embassy in London
Police have forcibly removed the WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, from the Ecuadorian embassy in London and arrested him, after the Ecuadorian government withdrew asylum.
The president of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, said on Twitter: “In a sovereign decision Ecuador withdrew the asylum status to Julian Assange after his repeated violations to international conventions and daily-life protocols.”
WikiLeaks said the Ecuadorian government had acted illegally in terminating Assange’s political asylum “in violation of international law”.

Pompeo flounders on why annexation is good for the Golan but not for Crimea
On Tuesday, bombarded by senators’ questions on the distinction between the Golan and the Crimean cases, he suggested there was a body of international law underpinning Trump’s move, that would soon be revealed.
Asked for clarification about the “doctrine” the state department issued a statement that made several arguments but no legal ones.
“Israel’s administration of the Golan Heights, and Russia’s occupation and purported annexation of Crimea should not be compared, as the circumstances couldn’t be more different,” the statement said.
“Israel gained control of the Golan through its legitimate response to Syrian aggression aimed at Israel’s destruction,” it continued. “Russia has occupied Crimea despite the fact that it has recognized Crimea as part of Ukraine in bilateral agreements, and despite its international obligations and commitments, including core OSCE [Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe] principles.”

Sudan's army removes President Bashir after 30 years in power
Sudan’s army has removed President Omar al-Bashir from power after 30 years, following months of protests that escalated at the weekend when demonstrators began a sit-in outside the defence ministry compound in central Khartoum.
Sudan, one of Africa’s biggest and most strategically important countries, has been paralysed by months of protests that erupted on 19 December in the eastern city of Atbara after a government decision to triple the price of bread, but quickly evolved into nationwide demonstrations against Bashir’s rule.
Bashir had been arrested “in a safe place”, the Sudanese defence minster and army general Ahmed Awad Ibn Auf said in a statement broadcast on state media. A military council will take control of the country for two years, after which elections would be held, Ibn Auf added.
Ibn Auf is a controversial figure himself, blacklisted by Washington for his role as the army’s head of military intelligence and security during the Darfur conflict. He has been defence minister since 2015 and was promoted in February by Bashir to the role of first-vice president.

El fundador del portal WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, fue detenido este jueves (11.04.2019) en la embajada de Ecuador en Londres, informaron las autoridades.
"Julian Assange, de 47 años, fue arrestado hoy jueves 11 de abril por agentes del Servicio de Policía Metropolitana (MPS) en la embajada de Ecuador", dijo la Policía.
El australiano fue trasladado "a una comisaría del centro de Londres donde permanecerá hasta que comparezca ante un juez cuanto antes", indicó la Policía.

Consejo de Seguridad de ONU extiende mandato de Panel de Expertos para sanciones a RPDC
NACIONES UNIDAS, 10 abr (Xinhua) -- El Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU adoptó una resolución el miércoles para extender el mandato del Panel de Expertos, el cual asesora a un comité de sanciones del Consejo de Seuridad contra la República Popular Democrática de Corea (RPDC).
La resolución 2464, que obtuvo el apoyo unánime de los 15 miembros del Consejo de Seguridad, extiende el mandato del Panel de Expertos hasta el 24 de abril de 2020.
La propuesta solicita al Panel de Expertos que presente al Consejo de Seguridad un informe de mitad de período sobre su trabajo antes del 6 de septiembre de 2019, y presente un informe final, con conclusiones y recomendaciones, antes del 6 de marzo de 2020.

Enviado chino rechaza acusación de EEUU en relación con Venezuela
NACIONES UNIDAS, 10 abr (Xinhua) -- El embajador de China ante Naciones Unidas rechazó hoy la acusación del vicepresidente de Estados Unidos, Mike Pence, contra China en relación con Venezuela.
"China rechaza categóricamente la acusación", dijo Ma Zhaoxu, representante permanente de China ante la ONU, en una reunión del Consejo de Seguridad sobre la situación en Venezuela.
Previamente, durante su intervención, el representante de Estados Unidos lanzó una acusación infundada sobre la posición de China ante Venezuela en el Consejo de Seguridad", dijo, en una referencia a las declaraciones de Pence de que Rusia y China obstruyeron la acción del Consejo en relación con Venezuela con su poder de veto.

Fundador de WikiLeaks Julian Assange es arrestado por supuesta violación de fianza
LONDRES, 11 abr (Xinhua) -- El fundador de WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, ha sido arrestado en la Embajada ecuatoriana en Londres, donde se le otorgó asilo en 2012 mientras se encontraba en libertad bajo fianza en Reino Unido por acusaciones de agresión sexual en su contra en Suecia, informó hoy el Servicio de Policía Metropolitana (MPS, siglas en inglés).
"El MPS tenía el deber de ejecutar la orden, en nombre de la corte de magistrados de Westminster, y fue invitada a entrar en la Embajada (de Ecuador) por el embajador, tras la retirada de asilo (a Assange) por parte del Gobierno ecuatoriano", dijo el MPS en un comunicado.
El secretario de Estado británico, Sajid Javid, confirmó en un tuit que "Julian Assange está ahora bajo custodia policial y que enfrenta debidamente a la justicia en Reino Unido".

There are currently about 5,000 active-duty and National Guard troops near the border, though that number fluctuates.

William Roberts.— The wording and implementation of the order were revised by the Trump administration to meet legal challenges and the so-called "Muslim ban" was upheld by the US Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision. That iteration of the ban included restricted travel for most individuals from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen. The ban also includes restrictions on North Koreans and some individuals from Venezuela.
The bill is expected to pass the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives later this year, but will face opposition from Republican leaders in the US Senate, making prospects for passage unlikely before the 2020 election.

Cuba proclama su nueva Constitución
La Constitución que proclamamos hoy es continuidad de aquella primera proclamada en Guáimaro, en tanto salvaguarda la unidad de todos los cubanos y la soberanía de la Patria, subrayó el primer secretario del Comité Central del Partido Cuba, General de Ejército Raúl Castro Ruz en la sesión extraordinaria de la IX Legislatura de la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular.
Al referirse al proceso de consulta, Raúl dijo que en él participaron cerca de 9 millones de personas en 133 mil reuniones, donde con absoluta libertad todos pudieron exponer sus criterios, lo cual contribuyó a elevar la cultura jurídica de los ciudadanos.
Explicó las tareas inmediatas que vendrán a continuación, entre las cuales se encuentra la aprobación de una nueva Ley electoral, en cuyo proyecto se trabaja para presentarla en la próxima sesión de esta asamblea, y la elección de los nuevos cargos de gobierno, el Primer Ministro, y demás miembros del Consejo de Ministros, así como la dirección de la Asamblea Nacional (presidente, vicepresidente, secretario) y otros a nivel de provincia y municipio.
Venezuela confirma su retirada de la OEA
El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Venezuela ratificó su decisión de retirarse de la Organización de los Estados Americanos y fijó la fecha del 27 de abril para hacerlo efectivo.
La Cancillería venezolana destacó que no puede seguir siendo miembro de una organización que sirve a los intereses imperialistas de Washington.
La posición venezolana se produce después que el Consejo Permanente reconociera al diplomático de Guadalupe como representante de Venezuela hasta que se celebren nuevas elecciones en el país. La decisión se tomó por mayoría de 18 votos contra nueve.
